'What skills
are needed for healthy
and sustainable place-making?'
LHC
team member Catherine Max will be helping provide the answers next
week at the European Skills Symposium hosted by the Academy of Sustainable
Communities. Her workshop will explore integrated approaches to
place-making which promote the "win-win" of health and
sustainability for economic and urban development.
The
LHC has led the way with the launch in July of the Sustainable Local
Economies for Health project (SLEHP) - a strategic planning tool
designed for everyone working to regenerate communities. SLEHP is
also part of the package offered - by the LHC, London Sustainable
Development Commission (LSDC), Government Office for London and
London Councils - to boroughs looking to embed health and sustainability
in their Local Area Agreements.
Andrew Attfield,
Regeneration Manager, Barts & the London NHS Trust. said,
"SLEHP
helped Barts and the London NHS Trust to formulate its ideas around
sustainable development and its contribution to the local economy.
In particular it provided a structure for its Sustainable Development
Index of targets and indicators associated with its new development.
The workshop
in Leeds will also include lessons from the Sustainability Appraisal
of the further alterations of the Mayor's London Plan where we worked
with LSDC to pilot an Integrated Impact Assessment tool.
Ends.
