London
Health Commission
Awards to be launched
On Wednesday
13 February, Jennette Arnold, AM London Health Commission Chair
will announce the launch of the London Health Commission Awards.
We are hopeful that Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London will be able
to join us.
Guests will
include community groups, LHC Commission members and a range of
key statutory sector and business organisations. These brand new
awards for London will recognise and celebrate the tremendous work
that is happening across London that is improving our health and
working towards reducing health inequalities. If you'd like to attend
see below for RSVP details.
The London Health Commission awards will be run every two years
and will focus on a priority area of our programme. This years
theme is Community action for health. We want to highlight
the massive contribution made to our capital by small organisations
and groups. All too often their hard work and dedication goes unnoticed.
Over quarter of a million people working in community organisations
contribute over £3 billion to London's economy.
Our awards are aimed at the very local level organisations
with a turnover below £100,000 per year. Our work shows that
it is groups working at this level are most likely to be invisible
to potential supporters and funding partners. We know that capacity
is a key issue for these groups so we are making applying for our
awards quick and simple. We will also be providing surgery-style
support events where applications can be completed there and then.
We want the widest range of organisations to apply for awards
including those who do not necessarily think of what they do as
health. Projects that contribute to well-being such
as supporting isolated young mothers, exercise classes for older
people, transport or employment would all be eligible. Full details
of the awards and how to apply will be available at the reception.
