Well London interim logo - the final version will be designed with communitiies

BIG - the Big Lottery Fund today announced that Well London alliance, a partnership brought together by the London Health Commission has been awarded £9.46m for a portfolio of projects targeted the capital's most deprived neighbourhoods in twenty London boroughs.

Alliance partners - Arts Council England, London, Groundwork London, London Sustainability Exchange, Central YMCA, South London and Maudsely NHS Trust and University of East London will work with communities to deliver a broad portfolio of projects themed around mental health and wellbeing, healthy eating and physical activity and open space.

All the projects will be community-led and will work with and build on existing groups, networks and programmes in the areas.

Work will start immediately on recruiting to Well London posts - adverts will be sent round very soon - and making sure that all finance and other systems are in place. The project will be phased with working starting in the first ten boroughs in October with the next ten coming on stream in April 2008.

Visit the Well London homepage on the LHC website for more details.
