LHC's campaign
a success - six days to go to a smokefree London
The LHC's specially
designed smokefree bus made its final stop of the campaign today
The bus was parked in Trafalgar Square for the last event in our
campaign to raise awareness of
the smokefree legislation that comes into effect on 1 July.
Over twenty-five local authority and health staff joined Jennette
Arnold, LHC Chair and SmokeFree London colleagues to receive their
smokefree awards as she announced the results of our recent survey
.

Over one hundred
local authority and health staff joined Jennette Arnold,
LHC Chair and SmokeFree London colleagues as she announced the results
of our recent survey.
Jennette
said "The ban is good news for everyone. Our latest research
shows that more people will go out and enjoy London's varied attractions
so business will benefit. It will save lives and prevent illnesses
from passive smoking. It will also get rid of unpleasant, smoky
public spaces and help smokers to stop. Fifty years after the Clean
Air Act of 1956, Londoners will wake up on Sunday morning to a city
that is cleaner, healthier and better than ever.
Jennette continued:
"I'm delighted that England is going smokefree. London led
the way with the LHC's Big Smoke Debate in 2003. We've been working
hard to make sure the law comes in smoothly and I'd like to congratulate
and thank everyone involved in making this a reality.
